In Borrowdale, a home is reborn—honouring its heritage while embracing a bold, modern future. Concrete and steel form the foundation of its transformation, redefining the residence with clean lines and a striking urban edge. The additions, alterations, and renovations of this home challenged the architects to strip away its 1990s aesthetic, replacing it with a timeless, contemporary design that speaks to today’s lifestyle. Every decision was made with strategic precision, maximising the home’s potential while maintaining cost-conscious efficiency.

The client envisioned a family-oriented sanctuary, seamlessly integrated with its surroundings and designed for both comfort and entertainment. The new design by Livan Design Innovation extends from the original structure through decorative steel elements that wrap and frame, creating a striking architectural dialogue between past and present. This parasitic architectural approach has given rise to an extraordinary 1,500m² sculptural masterpiece, elevating what was once a modest structure into a breathtaking statement of modernity.

With every room opening onto the outdoors, the design masterfully embraces indoor-outdoor living. The open-plan layout merges the living room, dining area, kitchen, and bar into a fluid, harmonious space, fostering both connectivity and effortless movement.

Defining the home’s new character are the clerestory windows and soaring ceilings, courtesy of the gable roof. These elements flood the interiors with natural light and enhance ventilation, making each space feel expansive, inviting, and architecturally refined. The result is a home that stands as a testament to transformation—where heritage meets innovation in a seamless fusion of design and function.
